Strong storms and nearly 70 mile-per-hour winds ripped through the Inland Northwest on Wednesday night causing widespread damage, stopping traffic, and leaving some with injuries.
There were still more than 26,000 Avista customers without power on Thursday morning. Authorities said Whitworth Water District was also without power and asked its customers to conserve water.
The American Red Cross set-up an emergency shelter at Riverside HIgh School. It served about 100 customers Wednesday night.
At the height of the storm, more than 60,000 customers were without power between Avista and Inland Power. Avista crews hoped to have the majority of their customers back online by midnight.
